Words on Fire

Words on Fire is a creative, relaxed, and exciting spoken word poetry workshop designed especially for teenagers who have something to say. Taking place as part of the Mullingar Literary Festival 2026, this free two-hour workshop invites young people to explore poetry, rap, storytelling, journaling, music, and performance in a supportive and encouraging setting.

The workshop is presented by David Hynes, a poet, entertainer, and lover of all things wordy. David is the coordinator, orchestrator, conductor, curator, and host of the Spoken Word at The Word Tent in MindField, and is also co-founder of The Poetry KilnThe Rising Tide, and A-musing. Though, as David himself might point out, he doesn’t like people who talk about themselves in the third person.

Guided by David’s energy, humour, and experience, participants will be encouraged to find their voice, shape their ideas, and express themselves with confidence. Whether they are into poetry, rap, storytelling, journaling, music, or performance, this workshop offers teenagers the chance to create their own spoken word piece and bring it to life in a supportive and encouraging space.

With the message “Your words. Your power.” at its heart, Words on Fire celebrates self-expression, creativity, and the courage to speak your truth. Participants will leave with practical writing and performance tips, a stronger sense of their own voice, and the confidence to share their story.
