Laurence Meehan is Chair of the Mullingar Literary Festival and a passionate advocate for literature, creativity and the arts in the Midlands.

His love of books began during his early career with Eason & Son Booksellers in Dublin, before he moved into graphic design, web design and marketing, founding his own successful creative business.

Living in Mullingar since 2001, Laurence is deeply involved in the local arts scene and is a proud member of Inklings, Mullingar’s vibrant writing group.

A committed reader, film enthusiast and poet, he is currently working on his debut poetry collection.

His writing explores memory, identity and the unseen rhythms of daily life.

At the Festival

Join us for the official opening of the inaugural Mullingar Literary Festival on Friday, 3rd July 2026, at Caffrey’s Bar, Mount Street.

Festival Chair Laurence Meehan will welcome guests and introduce the exciting programme of readings, conversations, workshops and performances taking place across the weekend.

This opening event marks the 2nd year of the Mullingar Literary Festival in Mullingar, celebrating the town’s proud literary and musical traditions while honouring emerging voices, local creativity and wider literary heritage.

All are welcome to gather for an evening of words, inspiration, community spirit and celebration as the festival officially begins.
