Anthony Viney is the author of On the Road to Damascus, a debut novel inspired by his love of thrillers and his real-life journey through Syria as an independent traveller in 2011.

He has also published a number of academic papers and texts and is a regular contributor to his local newspaper.

His varied career has included work in the defence industry, the BBC, teaching, the Traveller community in London, and social work in Northern Ireland.

He grew up in Germany and south London and now lives in Mullingar with his wife, Kathy.

In retirement, he remains an avid swimmer and kayaker, and enjoys being walked by his American Akita.
