Alison Weatherby is a middle-grade, teen and YA mystery writer who lives outside of Dublin, Ireland. A winner of Chicken House Books’ Open Coop competition, Alison’s debut novel was The Secrets Act, a historical YA mystery set at Bletchley Park during WW2.

The Secrets Act won the Redhill Academy Trust Book Award and was shortlisted for the Young Quills Award. The Common Criminals’ Club is her first book for MG readers.

When she’s not reading or writing about murders, she visits schools to teach kids how to write them. She enjoys reading, running, and hitting things at the boxing gym. Alison lives with her husband, two daughters, and a very goofy lurcher named Greta.

At the Festival

Join author Alison Weatherby for Clever Clues, a fun mystery-writing workshop for young storytellers.

In this exciting session, children will explore what makes a great mystery; from suspicious suspects and dastardly villains to clever sleuths, secret passageways, hidden treasure, red herrings, and the all-important clues that help bring a story together.

Alison will guide participants through the building blocks of mystery writing, showing how writers create tension, plant breadcrumbs, and keep readers guessing until the final reveal. The workshop will also include a special focus on clues and secret code-breaking, giving young writers the chance to think like detectives as well as storytellers.

Perfect for curious readers, budding writers, puzzle-solvers, and children who love a good whodunnit, Clever Clues is a playful introduction to mystery writing, character creation, and the art of keeping an audience hooked.

Places are limited. Please book to avoid disappointment.
