Dolores Keaveney: Celebrated Children’s Author and Illustrator
Dolores Keaveney is an acclaimed author and illustrator of children’s picture books, known for her vibrant and uplifting artwork. With a career in painting spanning over 40 years and numerous exhibitions, Dolores draws inspiration from bees, her garden, and her grandchildren. Her journey into writing began 15 years ago when she was inspired to create her first children’s picture book, “If I Were a Bee,” driven by her passion for bees and her desire to educate children about them.
Since the successful launch of her debut book in 2009, Dolores has self-published 18 picture books, consistently producing one or two books each year. Her latest addition to the bee series is “Queenie the Queen Bee,” which focuses on the vital role of the queen bee in the hive. Her books, celebrated for their educational content and beautiful illustrations, are available on her website and in select shops, with ten of them also available for download on Amazon Kindle.
In addition to her work as an author and illustrator, Dolores actively engages with the community through workshops in schools and libraries across Ireland. Her reading and doodling events are highly regarded, earning numerous testimonials for their impact. She has also enjoyed a residency at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre in Monaghan and has collaborated with Pixalili in Donegal to launch a range of textiles featuring her book illustrations.
Dolores has made several appearances on RTE’s Nationwide, sharing her experiences as a self-published author and showcasing her Dee the Bee Story Trail at Belvedere House Gardens and Park. This outdoor story trail, which teaches children about the importance of honeybees in pollinating fruits and vegetables, has been erected in various venues around Ireland, including the Mullingar Greenway.
